The Laura brand was introduced in the early 2000s as the old-generation Octavia was selling well and Skoda wanted to cash in on the sales of the old and the new generation. Since then, the Laura and Octavia brands were sold simultaneously until the Bharat Stage IV norms were implemented in 2010, and the Octavia had to be discontinued.
Skoda will retain the brand Laura, however they will launch a new product at a later stage, which will sit between the new Ocatavia and Rapid. But we don’t know how strong will the D sedan segment be, as manufacturers are today focusing on introducing SUVs in that segment. Renault, Mahindra, Tata already have products in that price bracket and soon we will see Nissan and even Honda enter into this growing SUV segment.
Skoda has been quiet for a while when it comes to new products and the last brand new offering was the Rapid. Now, the company will introduce the Octavia and facelift for the Superb is also in the pipeline. The other change will be the new Skoda logo that will be seen on the new Octavia and other products like Rapid, Superb and Yeti too. The Fabia was also pulled out of production sometime ago. We shall soon, update with the Skoda Octavia unveiling which happens today in the evening.

For the times when the drive becomes a commute, the Skoda Laura RS will continue to thrill with its extensive array of features for improved comfort, convenience and safety. The advanced direct injection technology with turbocharging translates to superlative refinement, class-leading performance and low consumption. The RS takes inspiration for design and performance directly from the racetrack. Sporty Alcantara leather seats with lateral support and an RS emblem set the tone for the interiors, while ensuring comfort of the drivers and passengers even on the longest drive.
A three-spoke leather steering wheel with a six-speed manual transmission continues to combine with high-performance with style and safety. The Skoda Laura RS sports an attractive exterior which reveals its high-performance heritage. Its character is perfectly captured by the 16″ alloy wheels, aerodynamic spoiler on the boot and the aggressive chrome dual exhaust. The understated style of the RS is further reflected in the xenon curve projector headlights with dynamic levelling, corner function, with front fog lights and the LED position lamps. The new Laura RS will be available in four sporty shades of Sprint Yellow, Race Blue, Candy White and Magic Black. The independent LEDs for the position lights are located above the fog lights in the RS. In keeping with the RS design philosophy they enhance both performance and appearance.
Steel sports pedals
Race-bred alloy steel pedals, rubber grips and stylish grey-trimmed floor mats ensure the perfect blend of performance and practicality in the RS.
The 1.8 TSI petrol engine with a power output of 118 kW has the highest specific power and specific torque in its segment. The engine guarantees an exceptional performance and at the same time provides efficient fuel consumption.
16” Draconis Alloy wheels
16″ alloy wheels complement the sporty exterior of the RS. Equipped with 205/55 R16 tyres, they provide safety, performance and enhanced driving comfort. From rally to road, the Skoda Laura RS inherits the best of Skoda ’s rich motorsport experience to offer the motorsport enthusiast a luxurious blend of comfort, control & charisma.
According to the sources, Skoda Laura RS specifications reveal that the new sedan will be replaced with a 1.8 L TSI petrol engine that powers the new sedan, to churn out a maximum power of 160 Bhp and maximum torque of 250 Nm instead of the earlier, powerful 200 Bhp 2 liter turbo petrol engine. The sedan will be deployed with a 6 speed manual transmission gearbox, unlike the other premium segment sedans which are available with DSG gearbox. Retaining the manual transmission is a step taken towards cost-cutting to make the sedan relatively affordable to the public.
As for Skoda Laura RS features, no visible changes is reported to have been made in the suspension department as well, while few technical changes might leap in for sharper handling. Hence, we can strongly say that the changes made in the upgraded version remains to be mostly cosmetic. The Laura RS present in the international market is equipped with a sport suspension that helps in decreasing the car’s ground clearance by lowering the nadir even further from 37 mm to 127 mm. However, Indian model of this sedan is not likely to see such extremely low point of 127 mm, there-by retaining the ground clearance as earlier variants, which might not suit the Indian roads otherwise. The fog lamps are likely to get the LED as an addition, with the day time lamps sitting just above the fog lamps. Another additional feature included in the upgraded version is the electric sunroof. Exceptional interior seat covers, tautly spread over the seats and the leather covered steering wheel, metal accelerator, brake and clutch pedals are to mention a few bonus features in the new version.
Skoda’s authentic ‘Climatronic system’ is removed in this version to fall-back to the good-old manual A/C controls and the driver seat adjustments also needs to be made manually. However, the safety measures are not pulled back with the six airbags that safeguard the new Skoda Laura RS along with the other safety aids like ABS, ESP, Traction Control, Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR), tyre pressure monitor and Electronic Differential Locking (EDL).
